After you have linked Smart Voice to Google Home you will import your portal configuration into the Google Home. From there there's some more customization you can do.
Google Home has a concept called Rooms. Rooms are a useful categorization for Smart Homes especially when combined the ability to perform room level actions in Google Home. You can say "OK Google, turn off bedroom lights" and the Google Home will turn off every light tagged in the "bedroom" room. This is very useful because you no longer have build and maintain individual scenes for each room inside Smart Voice.
Unfortunately this built in feature introduces possible unintentional features you have to be aware of. Let's take the example of the bedroom again; let's say we have 3 lights
- Main Lights
- Left Reading Light
- Right Reading Light
If we call the Main Lights, "Lights" then we say "OK Google, turn off bedroom lights" the Google Home will turn off all 3 lights, in spite of the fact we only intended the Main Lights to be turned off.
The obvious solution is to not call something Lights for Google Home deployments.
