Groups are a way that users can create bulk actions for the Alexa. They also offer a way of creating new names or aliases for existing devices. A great use case for Groups is to make Room level commands without having to do complex or messy workarounds in the configuration tools for your Smart Home Product. You also reduce the amount of clutter and work in Portal.
Groups exist as any other Smart Home interaction but they are configurable in the portal. They allow you to combine actions across mulitple Smart Home skills.
To see your groups:
- Open the Alexa App
- Press the three bars (hamburger) in the top left hand corner
- Tap on Smart Home
- Tap on Groups in the bar.
To add a Group
- Go to the Groups page (see above)
- Press the Blue Plus
- You can give a name from the preselected list or put in a custom name.
- Press next down the bottom.
- Tap all the devices you want to be controlled in that Group.
This way you can create Room level controls without having to modify your Smart Homes configuration.
